A Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) is a licence that grants the holder the eligibility to act as a co-pilot or first officer in an aeroplane. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issues CPL in India to eligible candidates who have cleared the DGCA theory exams with 70% marks and have a minimum of 200 hours of flying experience.
One of the requirements of CPL eligibility in India is clearing the CPL theory exam conducted by DGCA. Ground training for DGCA CPL exams helps candidates understand the theoretical aspects of flying and covers the DGCA CPL theory subjects. CPL ground training helps candidates clear their DGCA theory exams.
The minimum qualification required for DGCA CPL is 10+2 passed with Physics and Maths as mandatory subjects from a recognised board. Candidates should be 18 years of age to obtain the CPL
As Physics and Maths are mandatory for CPL eligibility, candidates who have pursued their 10+2 education in other streams like Commerce or Arts must appear for Maths and Physics from recognised open schools like the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
An undergraduate or postgraduate degree is not required for an individual to become a commercial pilot. To become a CPL licence holder approved by DGCA, you must have a 12th-standard pass mark sheet with Maths and Physics as the two core subjects.
